Why Beyond My Books exists

A friend of ours homeschools five children. Every conversation seemed to come back to the same thing: not the teaching, which she was good at and loved, but the administration around it. Scholarship deadlines she could not afford to miss. State reporting requirements that changed depending on where you lived. Receipts that had to be kept, categorized, and produced on request months later.

The scholarship side was the worst of it. Programs will reimburse a great deal of what a family spends, but only against documentation, and only inside application windows that move each year. Miss the window or lose the receipt and the money is simply gone.

It was obvious she was not the only one. So we built the thing she needed: one place that keeps the lessons, the attendance, the grades, the records, and the scholarship paperwork together, and that tells you what is due before it is late.

Who we are

Beyond My Books is owned and run by Paula Tanner and Shawn Simmons, co-owners, trading as TANONS LLC in Florida.

We should be straight with you about one thing: we are not a homeschool family ourselves. We came to this from the software side, after watching someone we care about struggle with a problem that better tools could obviously solve. That means we listen more than we assume. If something in here does not match how your family actually works, we would genuinely like to hear it - that is how most of what is good about this product got built.

How we handle your records

You are trusting us with your children’s academic records and, in many cases, with the documentation behind real money. That deserves specifics rather than reassurance:

• We never sell your data. Not to advertisers, not to curriculum vendors, not to anyone.
• Your records stay yours. You can export them or delete them whenever you want.
• Everything travels encrypted over HTTPS, and passwords are hashed - we cannot read yours.
• Your data is stored in the United States, on servers here in Florida.
• Children do not have accounts with us directly. A student login is created by a parent and can only see that student’s own work.
